Our story

From Greenwich to the Parks — since 1983

What began as a small Greenwich delicatessen grew through more than four decades of food, family, friendship and community into the Pistachios in the Park we know today.

  1. 1983

    Where it all began

    Aysin and Sally open the first Pistachios delicatessen at 115a Trafalgar Road, Greenwich.

  2. 1980s

    The Greenwich years

    Pistachios grows, building its reputation for homemade food, good coffee and a warm welcome.

  3. 1980s

    Blackheath — food, coffee & jazz

    The story expands to Blackheath, with a jazz bar in the basement, as Pistachios keeps evolving.

  4. 1990s

    Success & ambition

    Success brings bigger ambitions, including plans for a new Pistachios in Canterbury.

  5. 1998

    A turning point

    Family circumstances bring those expansion plans to a close and mark the end of an important chapter.

  6. 2000

    Pistachios in the Park is born

    With the help of Karen and Aysin's friends Fred and Martin, an empty park building at Manor House Gardens becomes the first Pistachios in the Park.

  7. 2009

    Back to Greenwich

    Pistachios arrives at East Greenwich Pleasaunce.

  8. 2012

    Hilly Fields

    A new Pistachios in the Park café is created at Hilly Fields, with Fred and Ruth.

  9. 2013

    Manor House — the next chapter

    Don and Lynn begin their own chapter at the original Pistachios in the Park.

Absolutely — all three cafes are dog-friendly. Water bowls outside, the occasional biscuit behind the counter.
Do I need to book?
No booking needed — walk-in only. Arrive before 11am on sunny weekends for the best spot.
Parking nearby?
Street parking around all parks. Maze Hill station is 5 min from East Greenwich, Lee station is close to Manor House.
Dietary requirements?
Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options at all locations. Allergens clearly marked on every menu.
Open when it rains?
Rain or shine, every day. Covered seating at all locations. East Greenwich has a full conservatory.
